About The Prospects Tracker Blog
Typically NHL prospects for each organization can be playing across many different leagues. Over time prospects from past drafts can either move up to the NHL eventually, get traded or the NHL club may not choose to sign the player by a given deadline at which point the player may re-enter the draft. Furthermore, some foreign prospects never come to the NHL for various reasons.
I have always found it time consuming to look up prospects statistics as the hockey season progresses. It isn't difficult nor however I wanted an easier way for me to look them up and to organize it so only the prospects who are currently prospects at the beginning of the season are listed to keep it simpler for me. You can look up the NHL team's statistics easily and even the AHL team's statistics by going to the team sites.
However some prospects will be in foreign Pro leagues such as Swedish Hockey League, KHL or the major junior hockey leagues (OHL, WHL, QMJHL)or college hockey leagues, or even the ECHL or USHL. In addition, drafted players may eventually leave the organization that drafted them so I don't want to waste time looking up players by draft only to find out they are no longer the property of the NHL team that drafted them.
I decided to keep the blog simple. It is set up before preseason and training camp. The statistics are updated in real time (there may be short delays). The idea is to track the draft prospects statistics when they are prospects, not the NHL statistics although you may find a player makes the NHL team and it gets tracked or the player is called up to the NHL team. But the goal is not tracking draft prospects who are on the big club here.
Also players who are prospects on the AHL team but are not draft prospects are not tracked on this blog either.
I added a feature to obtain news on the most noteworthy prospects. The automatic newsfeed is based on keywords so you may find other news mixed in or no news at all for a prospect or old news. I hope this feature provides additional value. You may also find polls on the blog. I mostly set this blog up for myself as a simple way to look up prospects whenever I want without having to spend an hour or two poking around and clicking on links.
